January 27, 2017   3rd week after Epiphany

A part of my work week is spent sitting in a chair, turned toward another, prayerfully listening to this person convey what he or she believes are the most significant movements in his or her relationship with God. It’s quiet work; reflective work. Almost always, at some point in this hour or so of being together, I will feel gratefulness at the gift of participating in such a holy exchange. I find this gentle work of listening and helping another attune to God so gratifying and enlivening.
All of us long to be listened to, to be understood, and to be known. Each of us in the Body of Christ can listen carefully and deeply to the story of how God is living in and working through someone else's life. We build community and encourage faith in others when we take time to have these conversations with each other. As we continue to do ministry and get our congregation ready for a new lead pastor to join our staff, let's renew our commitment to listen to one another, to seek out conversations to get to know each other better and to hear how God is alive and moving at Pasadena Covenant. Prayerful listening is sacred work.
Grace and Peace,

Sat., Feb. 25th • 10-2 pm • Gathering Place
For the whole church—all ages!
Explore our neighborhood to find hidden treasures we overlook every day (there will be shorter & longer walks available). Bring $$ for lunch as we'll eat out. We'll finish our fun event by "mapping" our neighborhood & choosing new spiritual disciplines of listening & noticing.
• Feb. 26th thru April 15: Lenten disciplines: groups of 2 or more practice disciplines to notice & listen.
• 9 am Sundays, Feb. 26th thru April 9th: Journey to the Cross, photo edition! PasCov youth team up with kids' for photo scavenger hunts; bring a digital camera.
• Neighborhood BBQ: Sat., April 22nd 10-2 pm: We will invite our neighbors to join us for a BBQ in the parking lot. We need lots of volunteers to help!
Sanctuary of Women: March 5 - April 16
Images of God in Scripture include feminine metaphors as a midwife, a woman in labor, and a breastfeeding mother. Join us for a prayerful, contemplative 7 week class in the Corner House (starting March 5 and culminating on Easter Sunday, April 16) in which we hope to center ourselves on these feminine metaphors and connect with Mother God in new ways. More information will follow soon, but please contact Brittany Burian (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address))  or Lisa Carruthers (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) with questions.
